چکیده

1550-7998=20 We discuss prospects for direct measurement of stochastic gravitational wave background around 0.1– 1 Hz with future space missions. It is assumed to use correlation analysis technique with the optimal timedelay-interferometry (TDI) variables for two sets of LISA-type interferometers. The signal to noise for detection of the background and the estimation errors for its basic parameters (amplitude, spectral index) are evaluated for proposed missions.

Detecting a gravitational-wave background with next-generation space interferometers

Future missions of gravitational-wave astronomy will be operated by space-based interferometers, covering very wide range of frequency. Search for stochastic gravitational-wave backgrounds (GWBs) is one of the main targets for such missions, and we here discuss the prospects for direct measurement of isotropic and anisotropic components of (primordial) GWBs around the frequency 0.1 − 10 Hz. Aft...

Correlated noise in networks of gravitational-wave detectors: Subtraction and mitigation

One of the key science goals of advanced gravitational-wave detectors is to observe a stochastic gravitational-wave background. However, recent work demonstrates that correlated magnetic fields from Schumann resonances can produce correlated strain noise over global distances, potentially limiting the sensitivity of stochastic background searches with advanced detectors. In this paper, we estim...

Gravitational wave background from coalescing compact stars in eccentric orbits

Stochastic gravitational wave background produced by a stationary coalescing population of binary neutron stars in the Galaxy is calculated. This background is found to constitute a confusion limit within the LISA frequency band up to a limiting frequency νlim ∼ 10 −3 Hz, leaving the frequency window ∼ 10–10 Hz open for the potential detection of cosmological stochastic gravitational waves and ...

Subtraction-noise projection in gravitational-wave detector networks

In this paper, we present a successful implementation of a subtraction-noise projection method into a simple, simulated data analysis pipeline of a gravitational-wave search. We investigate the problem to reveal a weak stochastic background signal which is covered by a strong foreground of compact-binary coalescences. The foreground, which is estimated by matched filters, has to be subtracted f...

Progress on stochastic background search codes for LIGO

One of the types of signals for which the LIGO interferometric gravitational wave detectors will search is a stochastic background of gravitational radiation. We review the technique of searching for a background using the optimally-filtered cross-correlation statistic, and describe the state of plans to perform such cross-correlations between the two LIGO interferometers as well as between LIG...
